What to Expect From Your SmartLipo Treatment

Cosmetic surgery, like any medical procedure, carries a degree of risk and recovery along with it. While some treatments are relatively low risk and easy to recover from, it is still a good idea to know what to expect from your procedure so that you can help your body heal in the most efficient way possible. This is true of procedures that are conducted at the hospital and for outpatient treatments that take place at your doctor's own office.

Smart Lipo is a less invasive procedure than more traditional forms of liposuction. This new process uses a laser to penetrate the skin and dissolve the fat that accumulates in pockets just underneath the surface. The treatment is usually performed in a doctor's office and sessions take approximately 30-45 minutes. A local anesthetic is usually used to numb the area beforehand, and a compression dressing is often applied afterward to help with bleeding and swelling.

Some mild discomfort, swelling and bruising can occur after Smart Lipo. Some of these symptoms can be treated with over the counter medications and others will simply go away on their own after a few days. Most patients are able to return to work and normal activities 24 hours after the procedure.

If Smart Lipo sounds like the perfect way to say goodbye to fat pockets that have not responded well to diet and exercise, you should talk to your doctor. Although most people will respond well to this treatment, there are some with chronic health conditions who should not have the procedure done. Your doctor can help decide the best course of action for you.
