Laser Lipolysis for Cellulite - Smart Lipo Surgery

Laser lipolysis is a new take on traditional liposuction surgery. Rather than using suction to remove fat from the body, a laser is used to literally liquefy the fat in targeted areas of the body. Small incisions are then created at various points throughout the treated area of the body to drain the liquidated fat. Although this form of liposuction is less risky than traditional liposuction, a patient must still meet certain criteria before they qualify for the surgery. This means that the patient should be physically healthy, and their specific body problems cannot be remedied through the traditional routes of diet and exercise. Additionally, the skin should, ideally, have a high level of elasticity. Certain pre existing conditions or the consumption of certain medications may disqualify a person from having this procedure performed.

This type of procedure is generally recommended for smaller areas of the body, such as the face or the midsection, rather than being an all over procedure. However, because the procedure is less invasive than liposuction, the recovery time is usually much less than that of liposuction. It is generally between one to three days, depending upon the particular patient. The most common side effects that are incurred with this procedure are bruising, scarring, and the potential risk of infection. Some individuals also experience hematomas, which is the pooling of blood underneath the skin. However, hematomas generally correct themselves within several days of the surgery. Because this surgery is elective, it is generally not covered by a patient's health insurance. The out of pocket cost for this type of surgery for cellulite will run between $2,500 and $4,000, depending upon the size of the treated area.

Laser lipolysis is generally performed under a localized anesthetic; therefore, the health risks that one incurs are significantly less than those of liposuction are. It allows a patient to remain alert and conscious during the procedure. An added benefit of having laser lipolysis performed is that skin tightening occurs as the body rebuilds new layers of collagen. This process can continue for up to four to six months after the surgery is performed. However, as aforementioned, the primary disadvantage to this procedure is that it is only used for smaller areas of treatment. For those who wish to have surgery for cellulite over large portions of the body, traditional liposuction may be the most beneficial procedure to have performed.

Laser Lipolysis, But More Commonly Known As Smart Lipo

Technically called Laser lipolysis, but more commonly known as Smart Lipo, this is a relatively new cosmetic procedure that is dramatically better than traditional liposuction. There are many advantages to this method and it is attracting an increasing number of doctors and patients.

The first and foremost of these is that the small diameter of the tube used in Smart Lipo demands only an equally small incision and no stitches. Older style liposuction is very invasive and uses a tube that is connected to a powerful vacuum. The tube, called a cannula is inserted into the cut, and the doctor rapidly moves it under the skin to break down the fat so it can be sucked from the body. Smart Lipo on the other hand, is less insidious because the tube is thinner and the fat is not broken down manually.

The laser used is much more accurate for dissolving the fat into a liquid and does not cause any damage to the surrounding tissue. The fat cells are heated after which the liquefied fat is drawn out of the body through a second tube. A substantial quantity is also naturally absorbed into the bloodstream and out of the body through the lymphatic system. Smart Lipo also removes the fat without causing loose, sagging skin. This is because the heat resulting from the laser triggers the release of collagen as well as cauterizing the blood vessels. Together this eliminates the need for further surgery to remove or tighten the extra skin.
